Spay It Forward
Spay-A-Thon

Low-cost Spay/Neuter Clinic
Sept 28th and 29th, 2024
Goal: 90 cats

Lucky Cats of Kinston and the Lenoir County SPCA are hosting two upcoming low-cost spay/neuter days aimed at promoting the health and well-being of community cats as well as the community in which they live.

In response to the growing need for accessible/affordable spay/neuter services to prevent unwanted kittens from flooding our shelters, Lucky Cats is bringing the Community Pets Mobile Veterinary Clinic to Kinston for two days this September for the Spay-It-Forward Spay-a-Thon. Our goal is to spay/neuter 90 cats in two days, both community cats and owned cats, in an effort to significantly reduce the need for shelter intake and euthanasia.

North Carolina is number three in the country behind California and Texas for the most shelter animals euthanized with 75% of those being cats. Did you know that entering a shelter is the number one documented cause of death for cats in the US?

Lucky Cats Spay It Forward Spay-A-Thon hopes to make a difference in reducing this number, one cat at a time on Saturday and Sunday, September 28th and 29th with appointments available on a first come, first serve basis.  To register for the clinic, please email us at info@luckycats.org or phone (252) 361-1300. Lucky Cat encourages all community members to help spread the word and participate in this vital initiative.

Each cat will receive $300+ in comprehensive veterinary services, including spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccinations, and for cats in traps, FVRCP vaccination and an ear tip! The ear tip is the universal symbol of a spayed/neutered cat. Minimum donation is $50.00 for cats in traps, cats in carriers are $105 for females and $90 for males. The FVRCP vaccination is available for cats in carriers for an additional $15.

A trapping clinic at the Lenoir County SPCA will be held for participants before the clinic at which time humane traps will be loaned.

This program is made possible through community support to ensure those with limited financial resources can take advantage of this opportunity. Additional donations, sponsors, and volunteers are greatly needed and appreciated to help those who need it most.

In 2018, Lucky Cats came to Kinston to help humanely manage about 150 community cats living and reproducing in colonies around Kinston.  Since then, our outreach program, Lucky Cats of Kinston, has improved the lives of more than 2000 cats in Lenoir County. Although these Lucky Cats will never reproduce again, there are thousands more that still need help.  Spaying one female cat can prevent hundreds of future unwanted kittens.  And neutering males is every bit as important as spaying females!

For more information, media inquiries, to volunteer, or to make a donation to support our efforts, please contact Robin Byrd at info@luckycats.org or (252) 361-1300.

Community cats are outside cats consisting of feral cats, meaning unsocialized to humans, and strays who are frequently previously owned but have since been abandoned or become lost.  What they all have in common is, through no fault of their own, they are contributing to cat overpopulation resulting in suffering and high euthanasia rates in our shelters.

Thank you for caring!
